I just wanted to thank you guys again for my 5’10 Monsta stringerless board. The timing of its arrival was perfect as tropical storm Arlene is sending some nice swell to the Texas. The quick session before work was great, and the board exceeded my expectations. I have to admit I was really amped to try out the stringerless concept, though I hardly expected to be able to feel any difference… after all it’s not like my board is plastered with stickers, I’m just the average guy surfing next to you in the lineup. I was doubtful that I surf well enough to notice any flex in the board.

On my second wave on the board I dropped in, pumped through a section, and found the wave doubling up and closing out. I decided to hit the lip and rebound off the closeout.

My speed was pretty slow as I set up the bottom turn and then what was supposed to be a small hack on a lip became a sizable alley oop. That board generated a crazy amount of torque and speed coming off that bottom turn and it was totally unexpected.

So I’m a believer in the flex you were touting.

The board generated that turn and air, not me.

Thanks for shaping some unexpected results and here’s to a lot more of them!

Cheers,

I’ve created a monster….no, a monsta….another in the new “Wild Turkey” series…
This cheeter board keeps the speed constant, yet has the hold of a normal good waves shortboard. It is similar to the falcon, but with a slightly more pulled in nose and a wide squashtail for maximum lift. Where the Falcon had a spiral vee contour running through the fin cluster, I’ve plowed all the guts out of it and left one deep even concave with subtle inset doubles running through the fins and even concave running right off the tail block. When I shaped the first one, I didn’t think it would work, but somehow the water compresses through the tail just fine (I think cause of the concave off the tailblock) and makes for a lightning fast board that you can push full force on the tail block without worrying about any slipping. Basically you get all the speed of the Rascal and Falcon, but you never have to let off the gas going into or coming out of maneuvers. Ride this one 3-4 inches shorter and ½” wider than your standard good waves shortboard.

The high performance great grandchild of the Rascal.

Optional upgrades…5 fin install & fins to ride as quad/thruster at an additional $45.

Hi Todd & Charissa,
Hope this email finds you both in good health and glassy waves!

I wanted to thank you for the Amazing Job on the “Proxy Greased Rascal” you shaped me this spring!
Wow, it is unlike anything I have ever ridden and it rips.

I have ridden it in the worst of the worst storm swell, Doheny on a 2ft day and Salt Creek when its over head.
It does it all!

It has improved my surfing dramatically and it has become my go to board for just about everything.
Thanks for treating us all like family!

David Fields,
Salt Creek CA
Proxy Greased Rascal
5’8” 2 1/4″ 18 7/8″ five fin setup- I prefer it as a Quad
P.S. taking it to South Shore Oahu on Friday I’ll Send you a Photo if get a good one!

To see the Greased Rascal movie & find out more, click here

Greased Rascal: Shaper Breakdown

This is basically a more beachbreak- friendly version of the Rascal II. I have used the rocker and bottom contours from the Greased Pig (which is slightly more overall than that of the Rascal II) and synthesized them with a sleeker Rascal outline. The nose and tail are pulled in more and the tail block is quite a bit narrower making for quicker tighter response in the critical areas of the wave. This board has proven to be the favorite board in the quiver for many surfers; making it a very popular “all-around” board.

Just a hello and an “I love my surfboard!”

Also, when surf guys check it out, they usually say it is an absolutely perfect surfboard for me, they are very impressed and always comment on what nice rails you made for my board.

p.s. my so called friends, took me to Staircase, not so baby waves and not all that slow…

but my board took very good care of me!

This squatty little pudge is so fun to ride!! I came up with this design one evening while I was sleeping; dreaming of surfing a small, sectiony, mushy pointbreak…..and I was having fun….and I was riding this weird looking board (which has come to be the manatee). In this dream I was coming off the bottom and into the lip like I was riding a shortboard, but then through the flat spots I’d walk the nose like a longboard…only it was a small board.

The manatee is basically my high performance longboard model with two-to-three feet of the middle cut out (average size 6’0” – 7’0”). You can ride this board off the tail like a shortboard or ride the nose like a longboard. Also sometimes referred to as the duck-billed platypus, this is a rare and odd species that enjoys itself simply because it does not take itself too seriously. Available in squashtail, swallowtail and double ender style round tail.

Hi There

Well the board was awesome. I ended up spending a week + at san onofre .

Had so much fun and the board performed awesome.

I got back to Antigua last night unfortunately board-less as the airline seems to have misplaced the board.

Anyhow , thanx again for that piece of art. I really enjoyed riding it over the last few weeks.

If i don’t get the board returned I will re-order

another as it was just a amazing ride.

Custom Proxy Epoxy Performance Longboard

Performance Longboard: Shaper Breakdown

This board blends a bit of the old world with the new. A lot of times performance longboards lose all their performance because they have way too much rocker/ bottom curve to make them practical….unless your only surfing bowly beachbreak…and c’mon …really…?

Nobody wants to ride a longboard that feels like it’s pushing water.
So, I’ve kept this design with a bit of that traditional trim speed concept alive and kicking…enabling you to set it on rail and glide and walk the nose. This is done primarily with what’s called a three stage rocker, or bottom curve profile which has a pretty low entry with just enough curve up front to make the late take-offs on bigger and hollower days, and the ability to make a nice steep redirecting bottom turn…..smooth like butter…not margarin.

The mid-section has a flatter run through it…this is where the flow and trim speed come from. Finally the last third of the board I have a pretty sweeping crisp and loose tail rocker to keep her nice and responsive. The bottom contours consist of a good amount of nose concave the front 36” for grip and lift during tip-time. The midsection splits to a double concave or tri-plane hull configuration that flows into a pronounced spiral vee apexing at the fin cluster…this let’s her lay over rail-to-rail real nice…drivey like, but not slippy…nice and positive redirectional flow that gains speed out of turns…that’s the beauty of concaves.

I put a subtle chime or bevel out where the concaves hit the rail…this keeps the board from feeling sticky and let’s the water release out of the concaves and jump off the rails keeping the board nice and forgiving out of turns. This board is a favorite among veteran traditionalists, pros and beginners alike for it’s incredible performance and versatility; The staple of my longboard line.
Experience: Beginner to Advanced

Charissa and Todd,

I’ve had enough opportunities to ride the new 9’6 HPLB where I feel I can write a decent review.

First off, the craftsmanship of the board is really top notch.

EPS boards often come out with smudgy paint and dodgy glassing and this board is a far cry from that — the glassing is solid and the airspray looks super clean.

In the water, the weight and flex dynamics

of the board are very predictable and fluid.

It’s not a super stiff Surftech type feel, it’s not a damper poly-type feel, it’s somewhere in between.

Lightweight, high performance, solid, predictable.

The board turns very well from the back 2/3 of the board. This is enhanced by the generous rocker and probably the bottom contours as well. I think the board is stable enough on the nose to enjoy some nice tip time as well. I haven’t had it out yet on a decent beach-break noseride day where I could really spend a ton of time on the tip, but I can tell there are some solid dynamics in the bottom contours that will enable some fun in the future!

Overall, this is a great ‘everyday’ high perf board

and I expect to get a lot of use out of it.

I may bring it to Hawaii in the next few weeks to try it out in some decent juice.

FYI I thought the 7″ Cutaway fin and SB1′s were really over-finned for the board in the conditions I am surfing it in. I swapped out the SB1′s for SB3′s (375′s vs 325′s) and I intend to put in a 6.5″ Cutaway as soon as I can get my hands on one. A lot of this has to do with the mediocre conditions that are available to me, where I want as much looseness as possible. The board is not overly volumed — if anything, it’s pretty thinned out in the rails, so it enjoys the looseness a lot. I want to try it as a single soon — too many fins, too little time!

Thanks again, will be in touch soon.

Best,

Over time, the original derivative of this board, the “Groveler IV.p” became so fine-tuned that it grew up, left home and has started a new life of it’s own. The new G-4.E has undergone little tweaks to the rocker here and there, to the point that this design has become so versatile that it is not fair to call it a groveler any more….it generates tons of speed in small waves, but it also works so good in good waves. It is the all-arounder that works the best in the widest variety of performance surfing conditions. If you need to get just one performance board to see you through, this is the one to get.

I will let you know how the rest go when I get some more swell…

I’m going to go do some whip in airs this week so I should get some nice shots.

Dimensions: 5’7 x 18″ 7/8 x 2″ 1/4
Rider Height/Weight: 5’5 140 lbs

With every surfer in sight going shorter and wider

on their everyday performance shortboards, I decided to get in on the action and get a shorter/wider small wave shortboard. Enter the Proctor Greased Pig II. A normal shortboard for me used to be somewhere be somewhere in the 5’10 – 5’11 range and when I got the Greased Pig I was a bit skeptical that I’d be able to surf this board in small waves.

Much to my surprise, the Greased Pig paddles great and even better, surfed awesome in small and weak lined-up waves.

The Greased Pig II features a slightly wider outline compared to a normal high performance shortboard along with a more relaxed rocker. The deck is pretty flat allowing fuller more boxy rails which I think allow you to really push the board on its rail in weaker surf. I have a tendency to dig the foiled rails of a performance shortboard when the surfs weak and small but I think the fuller rails allow you to push on the rail and actually compress and push off the wave with ease which in my opinion is critical to generating speed in small waves. Couple that with a single to double concave and this board really flies down the line when the wave walls up.

Surprisingly, the board generates more than enough speed as a three fin (I usually struggle to generate heaps of speed on a performance shortboard in small waves).

This particular board has a five fin box setup though I’ve only ridden it as a thruster. Surprisingly, the board generates more than enough speed as a three fin (I usually struggle to generate heaps of speed on a performance shortboard in small waves). I had another surfer ask me if the board was setup as a quad after seeing me catch a nice little lined-up chest high right. He was surprised that the board was able to generate that kind of speed in such small surf. This board surfs well from knee to head high though it prefers the wave to be running along the reef/bank with some wall to it. The wave doesn’t have to be punchy but you do need a small wall to generate some speed.

The Greased Pig turns well thanks to its tail rocker and bump wing squash tail.

It allows for easy round house cut backs and is snappy in the pocket. I would say that it draws a slightly longer lines compared to a high performance shortboard but most surfers can’t ride their HP shortboards in rubbish surf. This is the go to board when you still want to shortboard when it’s small and crappy as you can still generate speed and do tighter turns than any fish in your quiver.

Fish riders looking to transition to shortboards will find that this board makes the learning curve much shorter. The template and fuller rails make the board very forgiving which is key to surfers who don’t surf HP shortboards on a daily basis. Advanced surfers will love this board when the surf gets small and they don’t want to ride a fish. Those surfers will get the most performance possible in surf that’s just too small and mushy for their HP sticks.

My last thoughts on this board is that the speed this board generates is pretty amazing. This is by far one of the best small wave shortboards I’ve ridden and I think every surfer looking for a small wave groveler should give it a try.

Don’t forget, mention the code: SHACK when ordering your next Proctor and get your choice of FREE 5 fin install, Dakine tailpad, or resin upgrade! http://www.proctorsurf.com/Surf-Boards/shack-offer I hope to have a few photos and videos of the Greased Pig II in action. Stay tuned. Aloha!
